Set in 2008, Carson Flynn is a queer teen living in the Midwest struggling to discover what she wants for her life after graduation. To complicate matters, She has started to develop a crush on her best friend of almost a decade Ash Mars. The girls both suffered the trauma of Carson's mother's tragic death when they were young. Ash has developed a rebellious, self-centered and destructive personality, and Carson has been content as her sidekick until now. As their relationship begins to blossom, Ash seems determined to take Carson down the path of nihilism with her. The story covers the whirlwind of learning what it means to fall in love when it's happening to you for the first time, the struggle of living with depression, learning to recognize and end toxic relationships, as well as finding the courage within yourself and your support network to recover when your heart is broken.
